The town, located 45 km north of Budapest, was once a royal stronghold, but is now a resort with spectacular views over the Danube. The ruins of Visegrad Castle, a mountaintop citadel which dates from the 13th century, the reconstructed Royal Palace, the Water Tower and Salamon Tower are some of the most important attractions.
The mountainous district rising above Visegrad, the former royal hunting forest with its marked tourist trails, well-kept clearings suitable for picnics and summer-ski and bob slopes is a Paradise for everyone who loves to be out and about in the open air.
